Father's Day Steak Rub

This unique steak rub has become a family favorite — bold, savory, and just the right amount of heat. My boys love it so much they won’t cook a steak without it!

Father's Day Steak Rub??? But it's not Father's Day and I don't eat steak. I know. But this "steak rub" is delicious on many many things. Today I made it on tofu steaks and they were super yummy!! Yes, it's true. Super yummy, even my carnivorous husband thought so.

I originally found this steak rub recipe as part of my husband's Father's Day dinner, hence the name. He loved it and my son loved it and continued making it every time they had steak. So now they make large amounts and we keep a jar of it in the cupboard. The original recipe can be found here: original recipe and she uses small amounts. So, if you are interested in just making a small amount, head to her blog.

Steak means tofu steaks as well. Slice a block of extra firm tofu and sprinkle liberally with the rub. Heat a cast iron pan over high heat and add a veg oil of your choice. When hot, add the tofu with the steak rub side down. While browning, sprinkle the other side with the steak rub. Let the tofu brown and don't fuss with it so you get a nice crust. About 5-6 minutes. Then flip and do the same with the other side. Serve alongside just about anything but I love it on top of a simple salad with a balsamic dressing.
